This page helps users handle a Case Search in Indiana by explaining how to look up non-confidential court cases, review available case details, and understand when to contact the court or clerk.
The main official tool is MyCase, Indiana’s public case search service for courts that use the Odyssey case management system. MyCase is operated as an online service of the Office of Judicial Administration.
MyCase case search
Use search Indiana cases on MyCase to look for non-confidential cases in Indiana courts that use Odyssey. MyCase supports searches by case, party, or attorney.
Have one of these search details ready before you begin:
- Case number, citation number, or cross reference number
- Party last name or business name
- Attorney last name with first or middle name, or attorney number
Choose the search tab that matches the information you have.
- Open MyCase and select the Case, Name, or Attorney tab.
- Enter the matching case, party, business, or attorney information.
- Use the court and case type filters when you need to narrow results.
- Open the matching case result and review the case summary, parties, events, and available document links.
Search results are limited: no search will return more than 1,000 results, so use filters when a search is too broad.
Search options and filters
MyCase can search several types of Indiana court information, but the best search depends on what details you know.
Case number searches
For a case search, enter only one identifier: a case number, citation number, or cross reference number. Hyphens and leading zeroes are not required when entering an Indiana case number.
Party name searches
For a party search, enter a last name or a business name. A person search can be narrowed with first name, middle name, or date of birth. Date of birth may help narrow results, but it does not display in case details and may exclude some civil or criminal records where that information was not recorded.
Attorney searches
For an attorney search, use an attorney number or a last name with a first or middle name. Attorney name searches may also use wild cards for part of a name.
Wild cards and sounds-like searches
A wild card search uses an asterisk at the end of a partial search term. For example, a starts-with search can help when you know only the beginning of a name or want to broaden a business name search. A sounds-like search is available for party and attorney name searches when spelling may vary, but it does not work with a name that includes a wild card.
Case coverage and public access limits
MyCase includes case information from Indiana courts that use Odyssey. Case coverage varies by county and court, and older records may depend on when the court began using Odyssey or whether older cases were added for online access.
Public users may search non-confidential case information and many documents online at no cost. Cases that are confidential, sealed, or expunged may not be available through public search. Protection order cases cannot be found on MyCase, although public protection order information is searched through a separate Protection Order Search.
Case information on MyCase is not the official court record. Official records of court proceedings must be obtained directly from the court that maintains the record.
Online court documents
Some case documents appear as links in the chronological case summary. Publicly available online documents can include certain orders, final orders and judgments, non-confidential documents in some case types, and appellate opinions or orders.
Document availability is not necessarily retroactive. If a public document is not linked in the case summary, it is not available online through MyCase. For documents not available online, contact the clerk’s office in the county where the case is heard.
Online access is not the same for every user: public users, parties, and attorneys may see different document access depending on the case type, document type, and access rules.
Party and attorney access
If you are a party to a case that can be found on MyCase, you may create an Indiana Courts account and request an access code to connect the case to your account. When a case can be connected, MyCase displays an “Is this your case?” button near the case information.
Party access requires identity verification. You may request a code by mail if you can receive mail at the address in the case record, or you may call or visit the county clerk’s office to verify your identity and receive an access code. A code is active for 21 days from the request date, and connected case access lasts 180 days. Access can renew for another 180 days when you continue to access the case.
Licensed Indiana attorneys can sign into MyCase with a Courts Portal account. Attorney access includes the Attorney Dashboard and broader access to public documents, as well as cases and documents where the attorney is the attorney of record.
Official copies, missing records, and case payments
For official records, certified copies, transcripts, or documents that are not available online, contact the court or clerk’s office for the county where the case was heard. The court and clerk directory can help users find local court contact information.
MyCase may show financial information for a case, including amounts owed, credits, and payments. The balance shown online may not include the most recent payments, charges, or accrued interest. For an official financial balance, contact the clerk’s office.
When online payment is available, a “Make a payment” button appears in the case. Online payments may be available for traffic tickets in some Indiana courts and criminal fees in Lake County Circuit and Superior Courts. Restitution and interest payments cannot be made online through this feature.
