This page helps users work through court records in Louisiana by focusing on official Louisiana Supreme Court resources, including statewide court information, search tools, dockets, Court Actions, and clerk contact options.

Use the Louisiana Supreme Court site for Supreme Court materials, recent docket information, opinions linked through Court Actions, and public guidance from the Clerk of Court’s Office.

The Louisiana Supreme Court provides a site search for court-related posts, Court Actions, and linked PDF files. Use the Louisiana Supreme Court search page when you need to look for a case-related name, phrase, court action, opinion release, or other public item on the court’s website.

The search supports exact phrases and wildcard characters, which can help when spelling or wording is uncertain.

  • Use quotation marks around an exact phrase.
  • Use an asterisk as a multiple-character wildcard.
  • Use a question mark when one character is uncertain.
  • Use a minus sign directly before a word to exclude that word from results.

Search terms use AND by default, so a search for two names returns items containing both terms unless you use OR.

Current and recent Supreme Court dockets

Court Actions and opinions

Louisiana Supreme Court opinions are available through direct links from the Court Action release for the opinion’s release date. New opinions are added as released, and later concurrences or dissents may appear as separate links with an editorial note.

Opinions are scheduled for release on the Friday of each sitting of the court. Tentative opinion dates for the 2025-2026 session include September 5, 2025; October 24, 2025; January 9, 2026; March 6, 2026; May 1, 2026; and June 26, 2026.

The Court Actions page also notes that pagination on the website may not match the official opinion of the court for pinpoint citation purposes.

Louisiana court structure and record routing

The Louisiana Supreme Court is the state’s highest court and is located in New Orleans. It has original, appellate, and supervisory jurisdiction.

Louisiana’s court structure includes the Supreme Court, 5 courts of appeal, 43 district courts, 5 family or juvenile courts, 49 city courts, and 3 parish courts.

The Supreme Court directly handles certain matters, including lawyer and judicial discipline, cases where a law or ordinance has been declared unconstitutional, and capital cases where the death penalty has been imposed. Many other matters reach the Supreme Court only after a party applies for writs and the Court agrees to review the case.

Self-represented litigant resources

The Louisiana Supreme Court provides information for people representing themselves in court. The resources include basic forms for use in city and parish courts, a Law Library of Louisiana guide for self-represented litigants, video resources, and Louisiana State Bar Association self-represented litigant resources.

The self-represented litigant information is legal information, not legal advice. The Law Library of Louisiana can help users locate legal information, but its librarians do not interpret the law or act as personal attorneys.
