This page helps you handle Property Tax in Potter County, Texas. It covers where to search a tax account, how to pay, when statements are mailed, and which local office handles value and ownership questions.

For most tax account lookups and payment questions, start with the Potter County Tax Assessor-Collector. For appraised value, ownership, exemptions, and protest-related matters, use the Potter-Randall Appraisal District.

The main self-service tool is the county’s online tax search. It lets you look up property tax accounts by account number, owner name, owner address, or property location.

  • Account number, if you have it
  • Owner name, entered as last name followed by first name or first initial
  • Owner mailing address
  • Property location entered with the street number and street name

Use the search fields carefully. For a property location search, leave out street type and direction words such as Ave., Ln., or Dr.

  • Open the online tax search.
  • Choose the account type and pay status that fit your search.
  • Enter one of the supported search fields.
  • Review the tax account details before making a payment or contacting the tax office.

Tip: If you do not know the account number, searching by owner name, address, or property location is the county’s stated fallback.

Payments, statements, and due dates

Property tax payments can be made in person at 900 South Polk, Suite 106, Amarillo, TX 79101, or mailed to Potter County Tax Assessor-Collector, P.O. Box 2289, Amarillo, TX 79105-2289. A drop box is also located on 9th Street west of the building entrance.

Statements are mailed in October each year. Taxes are due when you receive the statement and become delinquent on February 1. If you have not received a statement by mid-November, contact the tax office and request another one.

You can tell the office which tax year to apply your payment to if you want to pay current taxes before delinquent taxes. Monthly installment agreements are available only for delinquent taxes after February 1. If you want to pay current taxes in monthly amounts before they become delinquent, you may do so from October 1 through January 31.

Installment options and tax estimate tools

The tax office says partial payments may be available. It also offers quarter payments in four equal installments for an individual who is disabled or at least 65 years of age, or who qualifies for the exemptions listed by the office.

If you want a planning estimate, use the county’s tax estimator. It includes fields for tax year, taxing units, property value, and exemption selections such as homestead, over 65, disabled person, surviving spouse, and several disabled veteran categories.

For current-year taxing entity worksheets and contact information, the county also posts tax rate information.

Appraised value, ownership, and exemptions

The Potter County Tax Office does not set appraised value. If you need help with value, ownership corrections, exemptions, or a revised statement after a value adjustment, contact the Potter-Randall Appraisal District.

The appraisal district provides a property search, map search, exemption information, a taxpayer portal, protest access, and a property tax calendar. You can start with the Potter-Randall Appraisal District site for those tasks.

If the name or mailing address on a statement is wrong, the appraisal district is the office responsible for ownership records. The tax office can send you an address change form that you can send to the appraisal district.
