The main public starting points are the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office Jail Roster and Jail Division pages. Use them to check whether someone is housed in the jail, review related jail rules, and choose the right office for the next step.
Montgomery County Jail roster
If you are checking custody status, start with the county’s official Jail Roster page. The roster is used to search by name and can show whether a person is housed in the MCSO Jail Facility, along with booking photos when available.
Important: the roster page says arrest information is temporarily unavailable while the county addresses active criminal investigations involving misuse of arrest information.
- Open the roster page and check whether the online search has returned.
- When the search is active, look up the person by name.
- If you need help before the page is updated, call (936) 760-5800, press 1 for Jail, then use the jail submenu for the type of information you need.
The jail submenu includes visitation information, directions, warrant information, property information, and inmate and bonding information.

Mail and jail FAQs
Mail rules changed on June 17, 2024. Non-legal inmate mail is no longer sent directly to the jail. Personal mail must include the inmate’s full name and ID number and is processed electronically after it reaches the off-site mail center.
Items that cannot be scanned are returned to the sender. Packages, certified mail, magazines, newspapers, and publisher-shipped publications are not accepted under the listed rules.
Legal mail still goes directly to the Montgomery County Jail with the inmate’s name, ID number, and cell location in Conroe, TX 77301.
For related rules on money deposits, phone calls, property pickup, release timing, and commissary, review the county’s Jail FAQ page.
Jail records and release processing
The Central Jail Records office operates around the clock and handles arrest packets, warrants, judgments, release paperwork, and bonds. It also coordinates transfers to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice when inmates are sentenced to prison or state jail.
If a judge orders a release in court, the jail says paperwork may not arrive until after 5:00 p.m., and sometimes not until the next day. Release processing can take several hours depending on the circumstances.

Common questions
Why is arrest information unavailable right now?
The Jail Roster page says arrest information is temporarily unavailable because of active criminal investigations involving misuse of arrest information. If you need jail or inmate information before the page is updated, call (936) 760-5800. Use the jail menu to reach the right option for your question.
How can I tell if an inmate is housed in Waller County?
The inmate should still appear on the Montgomery County Jail roster. Check the housing location field for Waller Co Jail. If that is listed, review Waller County’s rules before arranging visitation, mail, or commissary.
Can I get a court date from the jail roster?
No. The jail does not assign or track court dates. For felony cases, contact the Montgomery County District Clerk’s Office, and for misdemeanor cases, contact the Montgomery County Clerk’s Office.
How long does release take after bond or a court order?
Bonds are processed in the order received, 24 hours a day, and the jail does not give a fixed release time. After court, paperwork may not reach the jail until after 5:00 p.m. or even the next day. One practical check is to see whether the inmate still appears on the roster, because the jail says a person has been released once they no longer show there.
Can I leave a message for an inmate?
The jail does not pass along messages unless there is an emergency and the emergency has been verified. For routine communication, use the jail’s mail and phone systems instead. If you are unsure which option applies, start with Inmate Inquiries.
