Detention facilities and inmate services

The Rowan County Detention Center is a 210-bed direct supervision facility. The Detention Center Annex can house an additional 160 inmates.

Personal items are not accepted at the facility, and tobacco products are prohibited. Money may be sent by money order, deposited online, or deposited at a lobby kiosk at either the main jail or annex. Mailed money orders must include the inmate’s ID number and name.

The Detention Annex is located on Grace Church Road and houses sentenced and pre-trial male inmates classified as minimum-medium security risk. Transfers and releases are handled at the main jail in Salisbury.

Mail and visitation rules

Mail for inmates at the Annex must also be sent to the main Detention Center. Mail must include the inmate’s ID number on the envelope, and all mail must have a physical return address. A PO Box alone is not accepted.

Before sending mail, review the Rowan County inmate mail policy for restrictions. Prohibited items include cash, coins, tobacco-related items, altered envelopes, stickers, staples, certain printed materials, and other items treated as contraband.

Visitors report to the Jail Annex at 400 Grace Church Road in Salisbury for visits. Adult visitors must present a government-issued photo ID, visits are limited to four people, and visits must be scheduled in advance.

On-site and remote visitation are handled through HomeWAV. On-site and remote visits are available Sunday through Saturday from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm. On-site visits are free, and remote visits are $0.30 per minute.
