For the abstract number field, enter only the first 10 digits printed on the bill.

Paying someone else’s taxes does not give the payer title to the property. The county states that payment of taxes alone does not create an ownership interest unless the payer is already an owner.
Vehicle property tax
North Carolina’s Tag & Tax System combines annual vehicle tag renewal and vehicle property tax payment through the N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles. The notice is sent about 60 days before the vehicle registration expires when the address is current with N.C. DMV.
Vehicle property tax is due when the vehicle registration is renewed. Registration cannot be renewed unless the total vehicle taxes and registration fees are paid.
Vehicle tax refunds may be available when a motor vehicle is sold or registered out of state. The owner must surrender the license plate and present proof of plate surrender and either a bill of sale or the new state’s registration within one year.
