This page helps Kane County, Illinois property owners find property tax bills, check payment options, review exemptions, and contact the right local office for property tax questions.

Use the Kane County Property Tax Inquiry for bill and parcel searches, the Kane County Treasurer for payments, and the Kane County Assessment Office for exemption and assessment-related questions.

Kane County Property Tax Inquiry

The main online search tool is the Kane County Property Tax Inquiry. It supports parcel, advanced parcel, and mobile home searches.

  • Parcel number
  • Last name as it appears on the tax bill

You may also search by selecting the available search type that matches the property record you need.

  • Choose Parcel Search, Advanced Parcel Search, or Mobile Home Search.
  • Enter at least one search field.
  • Review the matching tax record and bill details.

Printed screenshots are not a substitute for a tax bill. The inquiry system notes that records are public information and part of a working file that is updated regularly.

Due dates, penalties, and late payments

For 2025 real estate taxes payable in 2026, the first installment is due June 1, 2026. Mobile home tax bills are due May 1, 2026.

The Kane County late payment schedule lists penalty amounts by payment date.

Payment date First installment penalty Second installment penalty
On or before June 1 0% 0%
June 2 to July 1 1.5% 0%
July 2 to August 1 3.0% 0%
August 2 to September 1 4.5% 0%
September 2 to October 1 6.0% 1.5%
October 2 to October 23 7.5% 3.0%

Payment after September 15 requires an additional $10 publication fee. Payment after October 16 must be made with cashier’s check, money order, or cash. Personal and business checks are not accepted after that date.

Other payment and bill options

The Treasurer FAQ states that partial payments are not accepted. If you pay by mail, a canceled check is your receipt, and a mailed receipt can be requested by including a self-addressed stamped envelope.

Payments postmarked on or before the due date are considered on time if the postmark is date stamped by the post office, not by a metered postal machine. Postmarks are not honored after October 1.

Some banks accept on-time property tax payments with the payment stub. The Treasurer provides a bank payment location list, including notes for bank-customer-only and check-only locations.

Tax bills, escrow, and duplicate copies

If you did not receive a tax bill or lost it, you can print a duplicate bill from the Treasurer website. The Treasurer FAQ also says a duplicate copy printed by the office costs $2.00 per tax bill.

If a mortgage company pays your taxes, you may still receive a bill for your records. Mortgage companies may print bills from the Treasurer website, request duplicate bills, contact the office for payment amounts, or pay electronically.

If both you and your mortgage company pay the same installment, the first payment received is applied. Additional payments are returned or refunded to the payer.

Exemptions and assessments

The Kane County Assessment Office handles homestead exemption information. Homestead exemptions reduce a property’s taxable value before taxes are calculated, and actual savings depend on the tax rate for the property.

Review Kane County homestead exemptions for exemption categories such as General Homestead, Senior Citizen Homestead, Senior Freeze, Persons with Disabilities, Veterans with Disabilities, Returning Veterans, and Home Improvement.

For property valuation questions, the tax bill explanation directs owners to contact their Township Assessor. Kane County also provides a Township Assessor directory.

Prepayments and senior tax deferral

Kane County accepts property tax prepayment applications during December. The prepayment application states that payment is applied to accrued 2025 property tax billed in 2026, must use a valid parcel number, cannot exceed the prior year total tax amount, and cannot be less than $500.

The Treasurer FAQ states that prepayments are accepted in the Treasurer’s Office from the first business day of December to the last business day of December, and online prepayments are not accepted. Use the Kane County property tax prepayment application when the program is open.

Illinois also offers a Senior Citizens Real Estate Tax Deferral Program for qualified senior citizens. The program works like a loan against the property’s market value, with deferred amounts paid by the state and repaid later with interest.

Tax sale and redemption

Unpaid taxes may move to the annual tax sale process. The Kane County Treasurer’s tax sale information states that buyers must be physically present to participate and that the Treasurer’s staff does not provide legal advice.

If property taxes are sold, that does not cause immediate loss of the property. Sold delinquent taxes must be redeemed through the Kane County Clerk’s Office, and redemption must be paid in full with certified funds or cash. Partial payments are not accepted.

The County Clerk Tax Extension office also handles tax redemption information. Use the Kane County Clerk Tax Extension page for related tax extension and redemption topics.

Alerts and Treasurer contact form

Kane County offers Treasurer E-Notification alerts by email or text for payment due dates, installment reminders, and other parcel-related notices. Subscribers are responsible for unsubscribing when they no longer want notices.

For parcel-specific questions, the Treasurer contact form asks for parcel number, first and last name, a brief description, and a contact method. The form supports email or phone contact selection.

You can use the Kane County Treasurer contact form for a written message to the Treasurer’s Office.
