This page helps users handle Property Tax tasks in Citrus County, Florida, including tax account lookup, online payment, due dates, discounts, and office contact options.

The Citrus County Tax Collector is the main local office for property tax collection, tax notices, installment payments, delinquent taxes, and payment questions.

Pay or look up Citrus County property taxes

Citrus County property tax accounts can be searched and paid online through the county tax payment service. Use the tax account lookup to review current taxes, delinquent taxes, or certificate redemption information before making a payment.

Property tax notices are mailed to the owner’s last address of record on the tax roll. If a mortgage company pays through escrow, the mortgage company should request the bill, and the owner receives an information-only copy.

Property tax bills and payment timing

Annual property tax bills are mailed on or before November 1. If a bill has not arrived by the second week in November, contact the Citrus County Tax Collector.

The gross amount is due by March 31. Taxes become delinquent on April 1 each year.

Payment period Discount or status
November 4% discount
December 3% discount
January 2% discount
February 1% discount
March Gross amount, no discount
April 1 Taxes become delinquent

Postmarks matter for discounts. If a discount period ends on a Saturday, Sunday, or legal holiday, the period extends to the next working day when payment is delivered to the Tax Collector’s designated collection office.

Online payment methods and fees

Online payments may be made for current taxes, delinquent taxes, or certificate redemptions with American Express, Discover Card, Visa, or MasterCard.

Payment type Fee or limitation
Credit or debit card $2.50 or 2.5%, whichever is greater
E-check $2.50 processing fee
E-check for current taxes Accepted online for current taxes only
E-check for certificate or tax deed redemptions Not accepted

Checks must be drawn on a U.S. bank and made payable to Janice A Warren, CFC.

Installment payment plan

Citrus County taxpayers may pay property taxes quarterly through the installment payment plan when the prior year’s taxes were more than $100. Applications must be returned to the Tax Collector’s Office by April 30.

Installment bills are mailed quarterly in June, September, December, and March. Participants are automatically re-enrolled each year after joining the plan.

Installment Due date and discount
1st installment Due by June 30; one-fourth of estimated taxes discounted 6%
2nd installment Due by September 30; one-fourth of estimated taxes discounted 4.5%
3rd installment Due by December 31; one-fourth of estimated taxes plus one-half of any adjustment, discounted 3%
4th installment Due by March 31; remaining amount due with no discount

The first installment is required. Failure to make the first payment cancels participation, and the taxes must be paid in full by March 31.

Partial payments and delinquent taxes

The Tax Collector accepts partial payments for current-year real property taxes with a signed affidavit. Partial payments are accepted only between November 1 and March 31, and all discounts are forfeited.

  • Only five partial payments are accepted.
  • The taxpayer must determine the remaining balance due.
  • Parcels already on the quarterly installment plan are not eligible.
  • Any unpaid balance on April 1 becomes delinquent and is subject to penalties and fees.

When taxes become delinquent, 3% interest is added to the gross amount. If payment is not received and processed before the advertising deadline, the delinquent account is advertised and related fees are added.

Tax certificates and certificate sale

If delinquent taxes are not paid before the annual Tax Certificate Sale, a tax certificate may be sold on the property, and additional charges may accrue. Once a tax certificate is issued, the owner must redeem it to release the tax certificate lien.

The 2026 Citrus County Tax Certificate Sale begins Monday, June 1, 2026, at 8:30 a.m. EST and is conducted as an internet auction. Bidders may view parcels and submit bids after the advertised delinquent tax list is published, scheduled for May 1.

Property values, exemptions, and address changes

The Citrus County Property Appraiser handles assessed value, exemptions, taxable value, owner name and address, address changes, and legal property descriptions. The Tax Collector collects the taxes after the certified tax roll is prepared.

For exemption information, the Tax Collector directs users to the Citrus County Property Appraiser’s office. For a property tax address change, contact the Property Appraiser rather than the Tax Collector.

Newly purchased property

Property tax bills are mailed in November for the full year, no matter when a property is purchased. Taxes are usually prorated on the closing statement between buyer and seller, but that proration is not paid to the Tax Collector as a partial tax payment.

If you receive a tax bill after buying only part of a property, contact the Tax Collector’s office to ask about a cut out of the property.

Non-ad valorem assessments

A Citrus County real estate tax bill combines ad valorem taxes with non-ad valorem assessments. Non-ad valorem assessments are based on factors other than property value, such as square footage or number of units.

Examples include stormwater utility, fire and rescue, and solid waste collections. Levying authorities set these assessments, while the annual tax notice includes them with the property tax bill.
